Lamentations Of The Flame Princess Hardback Kickstarter

20120412024824-campaign-graphic

I keep hearing good things about Lamentations of The Flame Princess & knowing my passion for pulp style games. I wanted to bring this new kick start to your collective attentions.. Anyhow James can explain this better then I so here you go.. I'm not sure if I'm going to get into this or not... Sounds interesting seems more Solomon Kanish to me. That's a good thing.. You can read more  Here

I've heard that people want the LotFP Rules & Magic book in hardcover. This is your chance to prove it. Your only chance. And this is also your chance to allow a great many other things to be created as well.
This is also crowdfunding at its purest - none of the items described this campaign will go into production unless funded. You will make them all happen, or they will not happen.
Let's get everybody a big honking boatload of stuff and get a big honking boatload of talented creators paid.

What is Weird Fantasy Role-Playing?

LotFP Weird Fantasy Role-Playing is an Open Game Licensed-derived traditional tabletop RPG of fantasy and weird horror inspired by the works of authors such as Clive Barker, Robert E Howard, HP Lovecraft, Clark Ashton Smith, Scandinavian doom and death metal, and independent horror cinema.
Its tone is unrepentently old-school, and has been described as "...what those creepy early D&D modules might have evolved into by 2011 if nobody ever told Gygax one of his ideas was too insane and Erol Otus was still kicking out artwork for supplements" by SomethingAwful.comDark Horse Game Design claims it "violate[s] the social contract of the RPG community.Suvudu.comcalls it "elegant and simple, and above all, stylish." Jeff Rients of Jeff's Gameblog says it "delivers the best, most coherent set of operations rules I've ever seen," and "one of the best versions of the Game ever made."
The Grindhouse Edition features art by Aeron AlfreyErnie ChanVincent LockeRich LongmoreJason RainvilleCynthia SheppardAmos Orion Sterns, and many others.
The Grindhouse Edition is not recommended for children... Due to explicit art, only those 18 and older should be allowed near it, lest innocent minors become drooling, perverted degenerates. I can't rightly say whether the adventures will be family-friendly or drilling the depths of perversity; that will be entirely up to the writers and artists involved. But I bet there will be some of both and the rest somewhere in between.
Oh yeah, you can download right here an art-free version of the very Rules & Magic book this campaign concerns. It might look very familiar to you, but there are many subtle twists that ensure the game doesn't play quite the way you'd think it does. It's devious that way. "The same, but different" is a feature, not a bug!

Here are the funding levels:

$7,500 Rules & Magic book in Hardcover

The LotFP Grindhouse Edition Rules & Magic book will be reprinted as a quality hardcover book (good paper, stitch binding, the works). The text will be corrected and the book will be given a fresh edit, proofing, and layout. (Note that his is not a ".5" edition - with one possible exception of a little-used subsection, the rules themselves will not be revised.) This will be a limited run dictated by the demand here - The print run will start at 500, and increase by increments of 100 only if required by contributions here. Any extra copies would be sold for 22,50€ each (plus tax and/or shipping) as a LotFP webstore and convention exclusive.

$15,000 + 32 page new adventure by Kenneth Hite

Kenneth Hite, the RPG horror maestro supreme behind Trail of Cthulhu, Bookhounds of London, GURPS Horror, and much more, will write a full adventure for LotFP! (All these adventure bonus goals will finance a full print run to send the adventure into distribution.)

$22,500 + 32 page new adventure by Frank Mentzer

The man whose work got me, and millions of other people worldwide, into gaming has agreed to write an adventure for LotFP! Enough said, right?

$30,000 + 32 page new adventure by Graeme Davis

Sometime in the late 80s/early 90s, I discovered Warhammer Fantasy Role-Playing and it changed the way I looked at RPGs forever. Death on the Reik is one of the three greatest adventures ever written. Just for his involvement in these works, Davis would be awesome to work with... but he's done so much more over the years with GURPS, D&D, World of Darkness, Call of Cthulhu, Colonial Gothic, and more. Don't you want to see what he'd do for LotFP? I certainly do...

$37,500 + 32 page new adventure by Jason Morningstar

Creator of Fiasco (which won him his second Diana Jones Award) and Grey Ranks (which got him his first), writer for GURPS and Trail of Cthulhu supplements and scenarios... and now, by your leave, LotFP adventure writer.

$45,000 + 32 page new adventure by Steve Kenson

Is there a game he hasn't worked on? Pathfinder, Mutants & Masterminds, Shadowrun, various World of Darkness titles, ICONS, GURPS, the list goes on and on. And now that experience will be used for LotFP.

$52,500 + 32 page new adventure by Zak S

Zak S, the man behind Vornheim, Playing D&D With Porn Stars, and I Hit it With My Axe, will write and illustrate an adventure anthology for LotFP!

$60,000 + 32 page new adventure by Richard Pett

Best known for his work on Pathfinder (including the horrific Carrion Hill and Skinsaw Murders adventures) and with Open Design, and "one of the most imaginative writers working in the business right now," Pett's presence on this project was practically demanded by some of the others involved with the campaign.

$67,500 + 32 page new adventure by Cynthia Celeste Miller

Cynthia designed/published, the Lovecraftian RPG Macabre Tales, Slasher Flick, and the Origins-nominated game Cartoon Action Hour, and more. She's also a death metal drummer and into pro wrestling, so between the focus of her games and her outside activities it seems her interests match up with mine better than any other RPG designer out there. Sounds like a winning formula for LotFP adventure to me.

$75,000 + 32 page new adventure by Aeron Alfrey

Noted weird artist Aeron Alfrey will write and illustrate an adventure for LotFP! Strap in, folks, things are going to get sssttrrannggeee.

$82,500 + 32 page new adventure by Stefan Poag

Veteran old-school maniac Stefan Poag will write and illustrate an adventure for LotFP. I don't know what he has in mind yet, but I bet it will be sick, twisted, and great.

$90,000 + 32 page adventure by Stuart Robertson

The mastermind behind the Strange Magic blog and creator of the massively popular Weird West game with write and illustrate a complete adventure for LotFP!

$97,500 + 32 page adventure by Tina Engström

Engström is a Swedish writer/artist involved with Myling, the Swedish RPG publisher responsible for En Garde!, Pirater, focusing on late 17th century/early 18th century gaming. Whether this adventure will be brand new material or a translation of material already released in Swedish remains to be seen.

$105,000 + 32 page new adventure by Jukka Särkijärvi

Author of Roolipelikirja, contributor to Roolipelaaja magazine, author of a couple of Living Greyhawk adventures, in charge of Ropecon's tabletop RPG program, translated Stalker into English, and RPG blogger.

$112,500 + 32 page new adventure by Juhani Seppälä

Veteran of the Finnish RPG scene and promoter of RPGs in the game store he runs. I had the opportunity to play a half dozen or sessions of his "Normal for Norfolk" adventure last year and have been bugging him to write it up for publication. Here's my chance. Make it happen, people!

$117,500 + Rules & Magic as separate hardcover books

The Deluxe Edition of the LotFP Weird Fantasy Role-Playing Game (the edition before Grindhouse) originally had "Rules" and "Magic" as separate books. This is my preferred format as they should be separate concerns. If we reach this bonus goal then Rules and Magic will be two separate hardcovers, and ALL contributors get a Rules book and a Magic book for every "Rules & Magic" book they pledged for. If we get this far then any extra Rules and Magic books would be sold for 15,00€ each (so 30€ for one of each) plus tax/shipping through the LotFP webstore and at conventions.

$122,500 + Referee Book in hardcover

The LotFP Grindhouse Edition Referee book will be reproduced as a quality hardcover book (good paper, stitch binding, the works). The text will be corrected and the book will be given a fresh edit, proofing, and layout. Some non-rules text may be revised but you're still not getting a bestiary. The print run will start at 500, and increase by increments of 100 only if required by contributions here. Any extra copies would be sold for 20€ each (plus tax and/or shipping) as a LotFP webstore and convention exclusive.

$126,500 + New printing of Death Frost Doom

The underground legend of RPG scenarios will have a new print run made for distribution. The text will be revised and corrected, new maps created, a new layout made.

$130,500 + New printing of Tower of the Stargazer

Two LotFP introductory adventures (one brand new!) will be put together into one book for distribution. The text will be revised and corrected, a new layout made.

$135,500 + New printing of No Dignity in Death/People of Pembrooktonshire with new cover

More people will be trapped in the bizarre town of Pembrooktonshire than ever before as we reprint the adventure for distribution. The text will be revised and corrected, new maps created, a new layout made.

$139,500 + New printing of The Grinding Gear with new cover

Garvin Richrom's revenge will get the reprint treatment for distribution. The text will be revised and corrected, a new layout made.

$143,500 + New printing of Hammers of the God with new cover

The dread secret of the dwarves will be exposed to a much wider audience as we reprint the adventure for distribution. The text will be revised and corrected, a new layout made.

$149,500 + New printing of Weird New World with new cover

The "icebox" adventure will be reprinted for distribution. The text will be revised and corrected, a new layout made.

Yes, if enough people contribute, all Referee Group and greater contributors could get over two dozen books shipped from Finland. What excuse could you possibly have to not sign on?

Notes:

All books will be A5 size.
Revised layouts will be incorporated into existing PDF products, so all existing customers get the new layouts in PDF. The free artless Rules/Magic download will be updated with the new layout (still artless).
All adventures will be softcover, Rules/Magic and Referee books will be hardcover.
Funded adventures will be also released separately for somewhere around 10€ each (plus tax/shipping) whenever they're finished.
The estimated shipping date for these is LATE OCTOBER. Everything ships together. We'll know by late May which projects are funded. Work on revising the Rules/Magic/Referee books will start immediately as their funding thresholds are passed (as will any LotFP adventure reprint revision work). Adventure writers have agreed to a July 31 deadline to turn in their work, and then there's playing them through (live and in Google +), editing, layout, and art for all of these which should take us to a late September press date.
While all print books go to press and ship together, PDFs will be made available as the books are completed.
Because every item discussed here is conditional on funding, we have to talk about bad things: There's always a chance an author gets hit by a truck, abducted by Martians, or gets a surprise gig so high-paying that it would be irresponsible on the part of the author to not take it, or some other calamity strikes and they can not fulfill their obligations to this drive after being funded. I give these assurances:
  • Every name listed on this campaign is on board as of right now.
  • If a writer drops out, I will make every effort to replace them with a writer of equal magnitude.
  • LotFP is nothing if we can't back up our word and give you the most killer shit you've ever seen. Our continued existence depends on making good on our promises, and we plan to be around for a long time to come.
In any event, this page (and the LotFP blog) will be kept updated throughout the production process.
Oh yeah, IndieGoGo keeps track of successful referrals using the sharing tools on this site. The person whose referrals result in the most contributions gets a poster! And the person whose referrals result in the most contribution money gets a poster! If one person's referrals meets both qualifications here, they get two different posters. This will be determined solely by the dashboard stats provided by IndieGoGo. Spread the word!
