Forget 5th Edition! Holy $#%.1st Edition Premium Player's Handbook From WOTC!

1st Edition Premium Player's Handbook
In 1974, the world changed forever when Gary Gygax introduced the Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game. The legacy of his innovative ideas and the extensive reach of his powerful influence can be seen in virtually every facet of gaming today.

To help honor his work and his memory, we created limited-edition reprints of the original 1st Edition core rulebooks: the Monster Manual, Player's Handbook, and Dungeon Master's Guide. These premium versions of the original AD&D rulebooks have been lovingly reprinted with the original art and content, but feature an attractive new cover design commemorating this re-release. Available in limited quantities as a hobby channel exclusive in North America.

Your purchase of this monumental book helps support the Gygax Memorial Fund—established to immortalize the “Father of Roleplaying Games” with a memorial statue in Lake Geneva, WI.

I had no real thought that WOTC/Hasbro would ever do this. Ever.
I'm all for supporting it, but if it turns out that out of thirty-five dollars only $1.50 goes to the memorial I'd be a bit perturbed. On the other hand, if enough people purchase these items through WoTC it will give them an idea of how many people still want to play this editionThey have to do this. It's coming up on IP Renewal time. This is for the same reason they put out all those small books in the 90s. Publishing this refreshes their IP rights to the original material.
Very interesting but I'm very wary as well

  2. Welle, the books will be "available in limited quantities" and "exclusively in north America". Two things which are quite disappointing.

Anyway, I wish those books will sell out so quickly that WotC will change their plans.

  3. They aren't going to change their plans. Wishful thinking Dice, seriously have you read Forbes magazine? Its like 5th edition is going to be a combo of 3.5 & 2nd edition at least from what I'm hearing. These are smoke & mirrors at present but still there's this http://www.enworld.org/forum/news/316036-off-see-wizards-day-wizards-coast-showed-me-d-d-5th-edition.html
